"Created by young people, for young people," the Pavilion dv2800t laptop adorned by the winning design from MTV/HP's Global Design Competition has just gone on sale. Along with the colorful finish, the desktop wallpaper mirrors the style and buyers get a matching messenger bag as well.
Otherwise, the computer has pretty standard specs:
Starting at $1,129.99, you'll score a Core 2 Duo (Penryn) processor, 14.1" widescreen display, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 128MB video card, up to 4GB RAM, up to a 250GB hard drive, DVD burner or HD-DVD ROM (heh), Bluetooth and built-in webcam.
So it's a nice looking machine, but the whole package sounds a bit too matchy-matchy for our tastes. And while it looks a lot better than another silver box, why not just make more designs? Until then, we'll opt to stick with the absolutely fantastic GelaSkins.
Oh, but one little message to HP—when you make an artist edition laptop, there's no need to slap the logo on the design. This is not a commercial; it's a laptop. We think. [product via notebook info]

I like the covers, sans HP logo.
I commend them for taking a chance with design, but at the same time it looks like some trendy graphic designer's head exploded on that thing.
At least its not pink.
Its still an HP.
Surely that can't be the winning design.
=^P
dig the design. now, lose the hp bloatware and we've got a winner!
That design is vomitous.
That's a nice finish, but not my type.
It's that generic, bottom-of-a-skateboard-from-a-toy-store kind of "art". OooOoh a yin yang. How risque.
Seriously this laptop looks like a f'n trapper keeper. From 1994.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but HP should do custom engraving (a la Zune Originals) instead of bright artwork.
A company called DecalGirl offers some alternatives for sprucing up your laptop look. I haven't bought from them, but I have been tempted.
@nutbastard: Ha! I was just going to comment on the yin-yang! So is this one of those inspired by Gwen Stafani computers? Sure creativity just flows out of you Gwen, it just happens to look and smell like shit.
@nutbastard: A yin-yang! When will this stop being symbolic to the old as a hip, young icon. Is this something Gwen Stefani made with her gig with HP? Sure, creativity just flows out of you Gwen, it just happens to look and smell like crap.
Nice design, good specs, but HP won't let you customize it with a fingerprint reader. Maybe they don't want you to ruin the design on the palmrest.
Now if only those HP coupons would work on this laptop, I'll probably get one (Otherwise, i'm stuck with the hp verve). But still, it's a nice design.
@Jimbuck:
*nelson ha ha for double post*
"What are kids into these days? Yin Yangs, Magic 8 Balls and Skull and Crossbones, right? Hey i got it! 'Free Pogs With Laptop Purchase!' no no wait, 'Free NASH Skateboard/FM Radio (they DO exist!) with Laptop Purchase!' "
@homerjay: I hear you. I had a sweetheart who was an engineer at HP and he even said "Buy a Dell".
I really miss that man.
This laptop is perfect for attracting that hot Asian girl you'd normally have nothing in common with... until now!
