This small point release for Sony's PS3 just fixed a few bugs and exploits, but brought a new feature that allows PlayStation 2 games that needed to install onto a hard drive to do so. Great for those who are still playing Final Fantasy XI. [Kotaku]

How about the ability to save PS1 and PS2 games to PS3 HD, so I don't have to buy a memory card adaptor.
when will i get blu-ray profile 2.0??
@tdeyoung: Huh? You can do that already.
Go to the Game part of the XMB, hit triangle, and create a virtual memory card for the PS2 and/or PS1.
@tdeyoung:
you can. Create a new memory card under the games column. Now, your gonna have to play the games and save them like new, but their on the PS3 HDD But if you wanted to transfer already saved PS1/2 games on a current memory card, then year, your gonna have to buy the adaptor.
There's something about online fixes at the Playststion Blog. Can't post a link, I'm on the iPhone.
@tdeyoung: dude look closer you can already do this.
@Anks329: bluray 2.0 profile isn't released for any device right now but you can be sure when it is ready you will get it when it is released.
@JustEaton: Can't type either. Bummer.
Wasn't aware of that. Thanks to all!
Still playing FFXI? You say that like it's a bad thing... No problems here though cuz I be all up on my 360 yo!
I wish there was an adapter (that actually works) that let me plug in PS2 controllers into the PS3 so that I could play DDR and guitar hero on my PS3. I've tried one, but it sucked. The one that supposedly worked (a pelican brand) apparently isn't sold anymore thanks to Sony.
@JustEaton:
Justeaton, iPhone "Copy and Paste" for Safari. Now you can post links. You're welcome.

i don't like the direction this is going.
sony should put some bigger hard drives in these ps3s.
come on, 40 gigs?
is it 1999 already?
FFXI... how i miss my ninja and warrior :( pwnage meripo !! lol
@captain nobody
Or you can buy a cheap 120giger. I still have lot of space left on my 60gb, but then again i keep all my video on my external hdd i stream from.
When is my PS3 going to decode DTS master 7.1, DTS-HD, or DD+??
HDMI 1.3 my ass...
@Captain Nobody:
The PS3 has virtually unlimited expansion. Buy whatever capacity you want.
@Trance-Addict: I probably won't ever use the bd-live features, but every time I pop in a disc with DTS MA and it down converts it to regular old DTS, my soul dies just a little bit.
@TheSonOfKrypton: Psh, I don't go for rudimentary rubbish. I did see that article though, thanks. Now if only Apple...
@Taran_Wanderer: Don't worry you didn't miss out on anything with the pelican adapter. I have one and it sucks for GH. My wireless Logitech PS2 controller works great though. Just can't turn on the system with it.
@Captain Nobody:
Think its part of the cost cutting to get the price/cost ration down further. Even 40gb is alot of space when compared to the 20GB 360 drives. Te biggest difference is that if I need more space in my PS3, I run to the nearest store or website and snag a OTC laptop sata drive, and shove it into the side panel...instance upgrade.
I am planning on getting a 250gb drive when te price falls a bit more. I don't see the need to ship huge drives because the vast majority of user will never fill up 20gb. Have to defend Sony for a change on this one.
I know, why not exclude the HDD with a PS3 altogether. Just buy any 2.5" SATA HDD capacity you want, and install it yourself. It isn't that hard to do.
you could already install HDD stuff from PS2. like FF XI. and game saves are another story. that's already there.
i didn't know there was any bugs
@Captain Nobody: Put in your own HDD. Pop it out, pop it in... a new HDD that is.
But does this update blend?
How about some updates to fix the meager less-than-stellar Internet browser? It's neat and all that it does YouTube, but half the videos here on Gizmodo don't even work. The latest version of Flash support would be nice, as well as a myriad of other fixes it still needs... There's also no reason why offering a nice WMP and Quicktime plugin wouldn't make sense. I would actually recommend a PS3 over a desktop/lappy to my friends if the browser actually worked correctly. Gaming? Check. Blue Ray? Check. Media server? Check. Well almost. Internet browsing? Meh... what???
Anybody know anything on the Harmonix guitar working on the guitar hero 3 game and vise versa?
@spectator101: I guess most noobie consumers will prefer to buy everything ready built in. external hdd makes my PS3 uglier. just like the xbox360 with a huge ugly power brick lying ard. simply disgusting!
why use an external HD? You can put one IN it
So is it still not possible to play playstation 2 games on the 40g playstation 3?
I miss playing FFXI. I had my guy up to lvl. 18 and I was kickin butt. I couldn't play it any more when the old PS2 died and had to buy a slim PS2. If they lower the monthly fee I would join up again in a heartbeat.
@Captain Nobody: I installed a 250 GB drive into mine. It's fast, holds all my video and music collection, and has room to spare.
