The new LG VU is the first handset to support AT&T's new Mobile TV offering and we got a quick video of the service in action at CTIA. The best part is that Mobile TV on the VU is all run from the touchscreen; from the channel up/down to the on-screen guide. The video quality looks pretty good as well. But you really have to pay attention where and how hard you're pushing on the screen because it will not recognize the button action if you don't press down just right. But all things considered, the interface is quick, snappy and well presented. [Giz@CTIA]

Pretty cool.
Quality looks good, but why no full screen..? The controls disappear but the screen does not expand...this phone is starting to turn into an 'almost'
Too bad there's nothing worth watching on TV.
I second Hudsong's comment.... I've had Verizon's mobile TV service for about a year now and once the novelty wore off, I pretty much stopped using it entirely. It's obvious that Verizon's service is catering to a demographic because there's no scarcity of 'Big Brother' and 'MTV Cribs' sh*z on the channels. They FINALLY added a new channel or two...and NBC finally joined the fold, but too little too late... The only thing that would bring me back would be if the greedy NFL would allow them to broadcast the games on the channels...but would likely not happen due to those stupid 'black-out' rules.... Now, granted, we're talkin about AT&T's TV service here, but I can't imagine it would be anything different from what Verizon is simply rebroadcasting from the networks....
I live in Japan and have a 1-seg phone... Free over-the-air TV signal straight to my phone. I can`t imagine paying for a TV service in north america... 1-seg is just so much simpler (and better, IMHO).
Ravlen
Its actually broadcast via a 1700MhZ channel that Qualcomm bought years ago.
i imagine battery life must is horrendous if you're watching tv on your phone. hopefully i'm wrong.
^ "be" not "is"
It doesn't kill battery life too bad cause its not sending a signal back and forth cause its NOT 3G. It has a TV antenna. Its only one way which saves battery and lag time.
iPhone please...
@bigMoneyMIKE: you're absolutely right. presto, chango, fixed!
After watching that video I have the uncontrollable urge to get my ass into the LG booth NOW!!!
Doesn't my Tilt have TV on it? I just picked up a Refurb, but still in Middle Asia waiting for my plane home. Wouldn't that be the first ATT phone with TV?
Anyone know if you can video out the signal on the Tilt to LCD? Save me a cable subscription.
@karnak: Thats probably their CV service, which isn't nearly as cool as this.
@Adrian Covert: Thanx for the shout, Adrian :)
Anti-Touchscreen Post: I don't really understand how "the best part" is that it's controlled via touchscreen. If I am watching TV or video, the last thing I want to do is have to lock the device and clean off fingerprints after every amendment to my viewing experience.
Change the volume, wash your screen. Change the channel, wash your screen.
It's not like I have dirty or oily hands, but even an accidental brush against my Zune screen while watching video will leave a noticeable smear. Requiring that I touch the screen, even with a stylus, is no convenience in my opinion.
@Way: touchscreens are the future of mobile communication. better get used to it or carry a wet nap
@Ravlen: thats because the u.s. is a cellular ghetto. we get devices and service that isnt half what asia has and we get all googly eyed about it. it's pathetic.
can i get tv from att on my n95 yet???
Okay, maybe semantics here, but I've had Mobi(le)TV on my AT&T/Cingular 8525 for months... and yes, it's billed by AT&T, a service of AT&T. It works really well and only 10 bucks a month.
test
Can't wait for the satellite version.
they should make it so it likes up with your tv, so you could use it as a "cable" source.
