Apple issued v2.0.2 update for Apple TV today, but nobody is quite sure what it does except add a Genre sort button to the movies sections and a Flickr update that lets you see galleries of favorite photos tagged by your friends. Jason O'Grady of The Apple Core said the download took 9 minutes over a cable connection, so it seems like the update is sizable. Anyone else notice anything new? [The Apple Core]

Yay Genre sort. Because I use that so much on my iPod. Okay, I admit I use the Genre menu on my iPod, but only because Cupertino still hasn't figured out a way to put podcasts under the Podcast menu. It's not like they're not tagged "Podcast" or anything. Just a bug that Jobsie & Co. have known about for more than a year but haven't fixed. Think Different indeed. (seriously Apple... tell an intern to fix it. It can't be that hard)
*goes to check*
*comes back*
I noticed that I still don't have one.
@92BuickLeSabre:
Looks like somebody stole mine. Too bad. They'll be disappointed.
Movie genres and flickr contact favorites aren't new.
i noticed i still can't directly watch every video podcast that is available through itunes. basically, seems to be same old, same old.
Didn't do anything for my sweating problem.
@pardyhardy: lol!
In a semi-related note: My fucking HP printer STILL crashes cuz it needs color ink and REFUSES to print B&W while MS Office (2004) Rosetta fucking BLOWS in Leopard. If Apple doesnt make it, shit just never works right. (sigh).
What it does is that it sends a time-bomb virus out that will attack any Psystar computer it finds... when they will finaly ship. :)
i provides envy and a feeling of emptiness to all 2.0.0 firmware users!
ms 2008 works pretty wel in leopard. go pirate it.
@kevman90: Yeah, I probably should. They clearly have made that a necessity, since they dont have a discounted upgrade program.
Considering most people still dont know what apple TV does itself, how can we possibly know what a firmware update CHANGES?
And yes office 2k8 is good for mac...although as the only MS software on my laptop, I have noticed it's the only thing that causes my hardware to slow down.
Movie Genre list was in the 2.0.1 update.
i think the flickr thing is too, but i don't use that part
does anyone else wonder why when apple releases its updates we have to download the whole freaken thing all over again and take days?
like when iTunes goes from 7.6.2.4.5.2.4.4 to 7.6.2.4.5.2.4.5 do I really have to download like 23mB of file or can you just give me the three lines of code you changed...
that's all
if i seem kinda angry, i am...but i feel a lot better now that i got that out of my system
@bigMoneyMIKE: Actually, oddly enough the black ink is only to make the colours mixed together from the colour cartridge well... More black, that's how most printers are these days.
Supposedly for "better quality" that actually meaning that even if all you ever do is print black and white documents, we're still gonna make you pay for colour and there's nothing you can do about it, so nah nah na nah nah, not to mention if you only ever print in black your ink drains faster because it has to mix all the primary colours to make black.
Oh and don't forget cleaning cycles, because logically the best way to clean a print head is to spray all the ink in your cartridge through it...
I used keep an old school b&w laser printer around just to print documents, then my college gave me a 1000 page per semester print credit.. Why IT students who submit everything online need 1000 pages I'm not sure.. But I usually just print off a book at the end of the semester. I think this semester will be the 3'rd book in the Dark Tower series, because my book club ripped me off and sent me 2 copies of 4.
Oh right.. this post was about the AppleTV... I was taught that if you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing at all.. So I will not comment on the crapple.. err AppleTV.
I just purchased one (Apple TV) today. Thus, I don't believe I'm qualified to say what might have changed.
However, regarding the printer issue, I will say this... Get a printer that utilizes both a black and color cartridge. You'll be much happier.
it fixes the problem with the ATV and the Apple 802.11n wireless routers running in "wide mode". do i get a cookie for having a useful comment?
@ThisIsSharksTerriroty: Companies that do that suck. Case in point, the Sony PS3 insists on downloading over 100MB per update every time they release a new firmware. It's annoying.
@theotherstevejobs: I just baked you cookies. Where you at!?
@jackfrost132: Wow, that really explains a lot brother, I appreciate that. Its ironic like you said on how to clean the 'nozzle' you must expel so much ink in the process...
I have an old school HP LaserJet 6MP (!) but it was APPLETALK on Parallel cable only. Maybe an ethernet bridge for it? It would be an add on...
Oh, and I have an AppleTV. The 40GB one cuz im poo'. I have HDMI out to a (9 months ago) Sammy 1080P 40" LCD with Deep Color.
The HDTV looks way better than standard, I dont know what the hell Wilson was smoking when he stated that they were almost identical. It CLEARLY isnt full 720p. And it is buggy now because of all the fucking DRM FairPlay bullshit on it.
@bigMoneyMIKE: It seemed to work fine on PPC. But, on that same note, CS2 doesn't run so hot on Intel either.
@Kaiser-Machead:Yeah, on my old Powerbook G4 17" Aluminum it ran smooth as butta'! CS2 is slow, its sad. Its because of Carbon, right?
Apple now only supports Cocoa?
What it does is fix the 802.11n networking issues Apple introduced with the 2.0.1 update.

@OMG! Ponies!: I'm confused. Are you saying podcasts don't show up under the podcast menu on your iPod? They sure do on mine... and for that matter it works that way on my ATV too.
@kevman90: Office 2008 actually is crap compared to 2004_ they've done away with many items of functionality_
The single advantage 2008 has so far is XML based files and intel native_ I can't even get some Word Docs to open correctly in Office '08_
Otherwise - if you really want something compatible and Intel native and works great try iWork 2008_ So far any problems I ever have in Word 2008/2004 go away in Pages_
I have resisted the urge to flame the ATV. Aren't you proud of me? I deserve a cookie.
@Xenocide: Im proud of you. BTW, I =STILL= havent upgraded my ATV. I have officially decided that I do NOT like it. Its like, MISSING features and stuff that could I dunno, actually make it USEFUL...
@uberfu: all the functionality ms 2004 had in mac is still there. It just takes a little while to get used too. Trust me, it is actually a very solid upgrade from 2004.
