We were too poor to play with RC cars when we were kids, but it seems like it was worth the wait in order for these Fat Shark Wireless RC Glasses to be invented. Strap the glasses on your face and you'll be able to see through the actual head of the RC driver. Better yet, the head can pivot and tilt so you're not always looking straight ahead in front of the car. We only wish it would be adapted for Top Gun 2008, the end result of which would be tons and tons of "pilots" puking on the ground. Video (of the ground model) after the jump. [Hobby Media]

Very first application, looking up ladies skirts.....
yup,@Curves: gives new meaning to the term peeping tom!
@Curves: Well ladies shouldn't be standing over RC cars with cameras on them now should they.
Now that's cool! I'm not even into RC cars (or, for that matter, racing in general), but that "you are there POV" could get me interested.
Cool!
Yes, it's all fun and games until you're controlling a UAV and someone Russian MiG blows you up and everyone laughs while you flail wildly running around the room.
Nice China copy of an Airtronics radio.

@N@tedog: Thats what the chicks at the races are for...umbrellas, drinks,...and the SHOW!!! :-)
Interesting concept. Now alls it needs is force feedback, so if you crash your RC car you actually feel it, and audio so you only hear the sounds around your car. It would be the closest thing to driving a car without driving a car...
Wireless, of course referring the lesser wire going from the headset to the car in the picture...as opposed to "wiremore," which would be a heavier gauge wire I presume.
No jumps? Thats balls.
If I could combine this with my Jurassic Park RC car w/pop-up spitting Dilophasaur, then I could have real fun!
Too much awesome.
I'm surprised the video is that clear, I've always imagined something like that would be way too bumpy. Now I wanna see it on a dirt track jumping and shit.
@Geisrud: I'm guessing those were power supplies/hard line connections to combat battery drain/interference from other "toys".
would be almost as fun watching them trip over themselves and fall down as the "pilots" did various maneuvers.
The video quality may be pretty crappy but it is still pretty cool - Forget Gran Turismo 5, I'm spending all my money on a set of these!
i wonder if theirs audio, so can drive around and
listen to people talk about you or you hear a continuous
loop of honky tonk.
Wow, whoever decided that THAT is the music to be paired with that video should be shot.
Preferably by a gun mounted on an RC car.
Now if they added another camera and made it stereoscopic, that would be cool. You'd have depth perception.
FINALLY someone did this! Awesome!
Fat Shark needs a better logo though.
When I was a kid I always wanted to do this with an RC submarine...
Serious mod potential here. You could mount it to your coffee table, and it could watch TV for you. It would be like living vicariously while living vicariously.
What? It's not 1080p??
@BasicBlack: Then you could incorporate a device to record that video feed, and...
I'd love to see this for larger gas-powered RC cars.
@Josh_Geyer: I thought I was the only one!
NO BUMPING
First thought was: I can't believe it took so long for this to happen.
Second thought during the video : No, that guy standing with the over-sized sunglasses playing with something in his hands doesn't look creepy at all. Not at all.
The sun is black!
I wish I had this on my cars when I was younger. It seemed that when our RC cars where on their last leg we would send them on a final journey down the stairs and see how many times we could repeat the process before the car gave up the ghost. It would be fun to see what the car saw as it died.
What is that thing in front of his shirt... a wire! eew!
@Curves: These days, ladies pull their skirts up enough, or walk around wearing tights and a tank-top "bra" - there's no need to go to such lengths. They do everything they can to be naked without breaking the law. Heh.
You guys cannot tell me this post didn't make you envision a massive honky-tonk obese shark orgy.
I have to admit...that is ridiculously cool.
the only thing more awesome would be Chuck Norris in the video - or to see what chuck sees through those goggles - kicking ass
I want one now!
The wire runs from the headset to the controller, not the car itself.
Wow!!! I want it. They need to add a microphone too though... not sure my dog is going to like this very much.
I need this for my cat.
RC cars could communicate over cellphone and/or wifi (or in the future mesh networks). This would allow for cars that could travel great distances relatively cheaply. Couple that with Qik and Google maps and there you have a very cheap version of RC car level Google Street View.
@TheAdAgency: WAR CAT?
That's really cool.
I love stuff like this!
This would be great on RC planes, except you gotta make sure you aren't getting too close to the ground.
1. Remove Video Head from Car.
2. Mount head on specially designed Cat helmet. Warning - cat-helmet not easily applied.
3. Release Cat into neighborhood.
4. the usual YouTubery
@DJrock3k: Until my dog eats it. JK
I would want to get this if only to run down the street with the glasses on while the car follows behind me. Talk about dysphoria!
@DJrock3k: Better off using dogs. They can be trained to approach cute girls. Wow, I just had a great idea. Collar mounted cameras for police dogs. New show: K9 Cops. You can freeze frame the looks on peoples faces right before they bite them, and do slow mo take downs. Get it narrated by Stacy Keach, and we got a hit on our hands.
If this could be adapted to other cars besides their crappy electric I'd be all over it.
Cool video but what was up with that hick music?
@liveinvt: Would you like the ladies to cover up a little more? Be careful of your answer, or this crowd will drag you out of here and beat you senseless when you say yes.
WANT!
