Many of you have probably seen Iron Man already. Jason saw it on Wednesday and thought it was the best superhero movie this side of Batman Begins (but we all know Jason is a Bruce Wayne fanboy.) Brian agreed in his review. But we want your opinion: has Iron Man survived the jump from trailer to full-lenght movie, keeping its predicted status of best superhero movie ever? Your answers after the jump.

Can we really even debate this before we've seen it?
"Is this the best ever?"
Yes. But I also answer this way after each girl I meet. Ahh, the thrill of newness.
Iron Man is the Rocketeer on steroids. Best super hero movie ever is TMNT... specifically the part where Vanilla Ice comes out and kicks a Ninja Rap!
How can any movie be better than Mystery Men. It is full of superheroes.

just like a new car, awesome the 1st year, until something newer comes along.
@Joseph: you just lost any cool points for being a Vanilla Rice fan!
@OG512: Come on.... everyone thought that was the coolest thing ever when it came out... let him njoy the recollection...
I've never been a huge superhero fan, my comics tastes were strictly GI Joe and Groo. But as a kid I would read Spiderman and Superman comics at the barber shop. And I used to watch the X-men and Spiderman cartoons, And the live action Hulk series. So even though I wasn't a fan, I knew the stories of those characters.
But Iron Man? Who the hell is Iron Man? I know absolutely nothing about Iron Man.
Logically, I should care less about this movie, so why am I so drawn to it? I'm not sure what it is, but there's something about it that makes me want to see it. Usually my wife (a comic book geek,) drags me to superhero movies, and I only go because of her.
But there is something about this movie that makes me think I may be dragging her to it if she waits too long.
So in my eyes, this is the best superhero movie ever.
/I reserve the right to change my opinion once I actually see it./
Didn't like the movie at all.
I surprised myself.
I saw Iron Man today and it was AWESOME. It was much better than I was expecting.
My 2nd favorite superhero movie would be the Batman movie with Christian Bale.
It's all hot tech gadgets, cool cars, hot women and explosions. I think there also may have been some dialogue or a plot... or something.
Yes.
I thought it was really good. But I still think the first Spider Man movie was the best super hero movie.
I think Stark is a better character than Peter Parker, but I think the plot was boring. I liked the beginning and the development very much, but the culmination in the battle with the old guy in the big suit was anticlimactic, and kinda dull IMO.
The ending, however, was the best ending of ANY movie I have ever seen other than "The Mist."
It must be said that RDjr is as cool as the suit and SPFX. He was an excellent choice.
I'm already in line for IM2 or the Avengers movie.
This movie put all other superhero movies to shame. I predict that it will become the measuring stick by which all other superhero movies will be judged.
See it early because you'll want to see it again.
It is one of the best. #1 would be Batman Begins, #2 Spiderman I, #3 Tie: Iron Man and X-Men I
@Joseph: Dork
I've been reading Iron Man on and off for 30 years. I generally dislike Robert Downey Jr.
This movie was almost perfect - the pacing, storyline, dialog, acting, effects. Took some very long storylines from the comics and wrapped them into a single movie very nicely - better than the comics IMO. And RDJr was superb - I am now a fan.
My new favorite super-hero movie - even better than Rocketeer or Spiderman I or Batman Begins or Superman.
Asking if Iron Man is the best SH Movie on Giz is about as scientific a study as asking if X-Men is the best on Digg. Iron Man has always been about gadgets and the guy who creates them.
That said, I think Downy's Tony Stark matches Bales' Bruce Wayne, but leaves the creepy Bat PTSD behind to be left with creapy fusion reactor in the chest.
Can't wait to see Rhody as War Machine.
good thing they released this before the dark knight. thats why im happy to say its the best at the moment. but that will most likely change come july 15th at 3am.
for my money, this has been the most accurate (yet personal) review of the movie: [eattheblinds.blogspot.com]
well Iron Man is my superhero movie.... that is if we arent including Transformers as superheros. Cuz technically the Autobots did save the humans from the Decepticons. But what ever go see Iron Man its WAAAYYYYYYYY worth it.
This movie is one of the top "comic-to-movie" movies so far... and for anyone who thinks this is too slow, just remember, the whole movie is basically a setup for the last 30 seconds (after the credits).
It was good not great. IMO the best would be Superman: The Movie followed by Batman Begins followed by Spider-Man 2 then I would put Iron Man on fourth place. Iron Man can't compare to those three.
I won't rest until I see a certified authentic Giz-photo-babe dragging her tongue over the suit.
I need to get a hobby.
Yes. Yes, yes, and YES. It's just. So awesome. Go see it, all of you.
And yeah, I missed the post-credits thing, gah >_>
Just saw Ironman, Tony Stark is my idol, amazing movie. Can't compare with with the new Batman series, both are equally good and depends on what you're looking for in a superhero. However Ironman does whoop up on some spidey ass because the Spiderman movies are... well... boring.
I just got back from the 7PM show on the east coast and I thought it rocked all over.
I'm a DC fanboy and read on the periphery of the Marvel universe. Personally, I think this movie rivaled Batman Begins or the Richard Donner cut of Superman II! So, from the perspective as a non-Marvel fanboy, I think it was fantastic. It reminded me a lot of the first Spider-Man movie - just a real fun time. You could really see his character transformation through the course of the film. The audience was cheering throughout, especially during the first real fight.
And make sure you stay through the end! DC could take a lesson from that ending *hint hint - DC! You can do something similar already!
If league of extraordinary gentlemen counts then absolutely not
PS Ironman is exponentially better than the new Superman movie. Yeah its THAT good.
it isn't the best ever... but it was an awesome movie
Until someone makes a better movie than the first 'Superman', everything else will pale in comparison.
All of the Spidermans and even X-Men 2 were complete yawn-fests in comparison.
The Batmans have ALL been too ludicrous to even be considered.
Having RDJr play Stark was perfect. It was no surprise that he had Stark's character, a non-recovered alcoholic, down cold.
Got to see the Hellboy II trailer as well .... heh.
hdont have time to watch it, but yeah I say it'll be a good movie.
Since I can't vote better than this but not better than that, here's my list from best to worst.
Iron Man and Batman Begins = TIE
Superman I (Christopher Reeve)
Superman II (Kneel before Zod!)
X-Men
Spider-Man
X-Men 3
X-Men 2
Batman (Michael Keaton and Jack N.)
Spider-Man 2
Hulk (Ang Lee's)
You can flush the following movies in the toilet:
Superman Returns
The other Batman movies (Clooney, Kilmer, etc.)
Fantastic Crap, er Four
Spider-Man 3
The following movies I expect to follow my Iron Man/Batman Begins TIE:
The Dark Knight
The Incredible Hulk
That's it for me!
Not the best super-hero movie ever, but it was still quite good. Easily better than the Spider-Man movies or X-Men 3.
I'm not going to see it until Sunday :P
Superman is by far the best superhero movie of all time. Followed by Batman and X-Men.
Why is the No radio button not disabled? WTF????
I just got back from seeing it, and let me tell you, every part of it is great. Some people were bitching about the ending, but i thought it was stupendous.
Tech porn makes me happy.
@OG512: Or just like an apple product
I thought it lived up to the hype. It could have actually been a little longer with some more action scenes but overall I thought it was way better than Superman 3 and pretty close to Batman Begins. Go see it though if you liked the trailers, AND STAY THROUGH THE CREDITS TO SEE SOMETHING REALLY REALLY REALLY COOL!!!!
Iron Man has always been my favorite superhero. I mean, he's just a normal guy, who does extraordinary things with technology. Now that's fucking cool. Plus he's a badass.
Was Iron Man the best? I don't know man. There were a lot of other great Super Hero, Comic book movies before it that were also pretty damned good. Movies like the first Batman (1989), the first Spider-Man, Batman Returns, The Crow, Spawn, those were great too.
Will it be the best super hero movie of all time? It's definitely in the top 3 for now but there are a few movies yet to come like The Dark Knight which I'm hoping will be super kick-ass. Also, why not do a Captain America movie?
nerdgasm...I may have even pulled a muscle.
@P3nnst8r:
Yeah, techporn indeed. I had like 6 nerdgasms through that movie :-)
@apeguero: Excuse me, did you just include Spawn, movie, and great in the same sentence?
Iron Man IMHO is THE BEST marvel movie out so far...although I would've liked it if they made him 200% more drunk.....
@DakotaEpic: I'm sorry, but seeing that R8 driving past a bunch of cars going like 100+mph made me wish i was a billionaire.
Sigh.
@Solidsky: that woulda just been a Robert Downey, Jr. documentary then.
He's acting, that's what actors do.
I think Batman is better...
But Iron Man is
