Woot's Yahoo deal of the day is an 8GB iPod touch for $220, a whole 65 bucks less than what it costs at Amazon. The catch is that it's a refurb, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, except that it only comes with a limited 60-day warranty, which isn't quite as hardcore as what Apple offers on refurbs. So, save $$$ at your own risk. [Woot]

Just thought I'd let you know, I got an 8gb iPod Nano (current gen) from Woot about a month ago. It was refurbished and had the same warranty. I was able to walk into Apple, have them look it up and was able to add AppleCare to it, which added about 2 years to the warranty.
I wonder what breaks the most on these things. In other words, what was the leading cause of these things becoming refurbs? Faulty touch screen? Bad memory? Some other component?
Apple has refurbs for $230 w/a 1 year warranty.
Ph30nix is right:
[store.apple.com]
@Ph30nix: @M e d i a d d i c t: Plus, I think you can use apple's student discount, if, you know, you are a student.
So what do you guys reckon- if I were to wait until the Second Coming (probably July, right?), how much less than this will the 8 gig be?
God, Woot is wonderful. Nowhere else on the web can you fill your house with random, useless clutter and feel so freaking good about it! :D
Also, does anybody know what they mean by "Original software release"?
@ChromiumSwitch:
Just get this:
[store.archos.com]
@ChromiumSwitch: Still more than a 20gb Zune...
I got an 8gb from the BX for $239, no tax. And the normal warranty. Worth the extra $19 to me.
I just checked the student price and it is still $229. No discount there. Apple has been getting pretty stingy with student discounts lately. From what I remember they used to apply to everything and were pretty good. Now they only apply to the systems and the discounts aren't nearly as big.
@Rupan: I guess the thinking is: If you can afford the tuition to be a student these days, you can afford to pay full price for gadgets.
Isn't it usually the parents that have to pay for it anyway? We need a discount for not being a student. :)
@Ph30nix & M e d i a d d i c t: Thanks, I just ordered me one. I can only hope it hasn't yet been upgraded with the Smell-o-vision profile of the previous owner.
I'd rather get a 4gb Archos 605 wifi for ~180-200 plus the cost of an sd-hc card
@ChromiumSwitch: It means it doesn't have the phone-type apps they released in Jan/Feb... Mail support, weather, notes, stocks, maps and the like. So it will cost you $20 to get them from iTunes.
@ChromiumSwitch:
1.0.0, I would guess. You'll have to update it to the current firmware version.
@SgtMac02: Yes and it also doesn't play crysis. But nobody cares about either.
