Robotics maker Mark Single hooked up a Rock Band guitar to Christmas light show software and scored 100% on Green Grass and High Tides on Expert, one of the hardest songs in the game. He's detailed how he did it so you n00bs can try your hand at it too. I've never really understood the point of modding a game to play itself, but in case you were one of the lame asses who needed to cheat to get sweet scores in Guitar Hero III and panicked at the thought of actually playing to pass songs in Rock Band, Pure Pwnage has got you covered. Though, at the end of the day, is it really worth it to get a perfect and still feel so empty? [Pure Pwnage via HacknMod]

I get that this is cool in the gizmo world, and, we're just perpetuating the geeky stereotype. There are 3 dimensional people out there.
Eh, who am I to talk, I'm ignoring my girlfriend after work for GTA IV.
i love purepwnage!
Way to spend 40 hours of your life on something so utterly pointless.
After all that, the video barely shows the thing in action???
After watching that WHOLE thing I know one thing...
That guy really needs to get laid. Really. Big time.
That's a huge laptop, I wonder if the battery life lasts more than 30 minutes...
@nystreetfilms: I just love these types of comments. Grow out of high school already ffs.
That's just lame. I hate trainers and cheats. If you can't play the game on your own, don't cheat...that just ruins it for everyone else, especially if there are online components to the game.
Yeah its pathetic, i can't get 100% on expert but at least i get around 90-97%...just practice people practice!! just like a real guitar!!...jk :P
pfft. rock band expert = guitar hero hard. if you're going to make a bot, at least make it good enough.
I just commented to say, I think the computer games are serious business.
sweet jesus, 2 minutes into it and they still haven't shown the thing.
the point of the hack wasn't to cheat and get a high score, it was for the filming of an episode of PP that required a top score.
Well that's 6:37 I can't have back.
Kudos for the hard work, but for god's sake, do something worthwhile.
Meh. If a robot wants to play Rock Band, I say let it. First, it's less likely to go all "Kill All Humans" if it is trying to master "Through The Fire And The Flames".
Second, it is less an abomination that the robot Les Paul. Why would anyone do that to a Les Paul?! Why?! A PRS - I can see that. Maybe even a Fender. Especially the crappy Korean made Fenders. But a Les Paul?!
@OMG! Ponies!: I have to agree, it's probably better to have a robot preoccupied with playing a video game that can be used to entertain us than have one that totes around a belt-fed machine gun that can kill without remorse, or is it?
hmm... what if they placed the sensors further up and used a delay?
that christmas show program seems really sweet... maybe i'll try it out this christmas.
Next project: an automated voice modulator to help those suffering from chronic monotone speaking.
@Panique! a la Discothèque: Watch the Lord of the Rings special features some time. Richard Taylor may be a genius, but he makes this guy sound like Martin Luther King Jr.
@BoinK:
"ffs"
What are you looking for someone to make fun of you?
Now excuse me, I have to go finish my math homework.
ha, nicely said!
I just hate that they call themselves Pwnage now I refuse to watch their shows.
The best cheat ever is on the "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" PC game.
It simply says "Congratulations! You've won the game!"
Quick and to the point.
I am so putting those LED's in my guitar.
I'd rather play the game myself than figure out a way for a robot to master it. That's just boring and makes you even less cool than pretending to have a band.
@jbhitter24: I dunno, sometimes cheats are good. For instance, GTA 4, I just want to play the game the way it's supposed to be played...running around the streets carjacking people and killing everyone with an array of weapons (and making cars appear out of nowhere). I don't have time to work through stupid little missions to eventually do what I bought the game for. If you're playing against other people, I agree, don't cheat, that makes you really, really lame.
@Darkest Daze: See, I like cheats, god modes, weapon codes, ect....I buy video games to reduce stress...if it so happens that I can become god in a game, it makes it more enjoyable..
I don't cheat on the online portions though...it makes it less fun for other people
@GOKOR: wow, somehow I replied to jbhitter and not Darkest Daze...that was a bit of a retard moment.
It is 100% impossible to get 100% on Green Grass and High Tides on GH3 no way is it possible therefore this video is a lie!!!! However it is 100% possible to get it on Rock Band jesus guys you just spent 40 hours on something and you still dont know which game it goes with!!
As far as cheats go, nothing will ever, ever beat impulse 255.
the exploding-glass effect on the notes is a real pain in the ass. that first idea would have been so much easier to implement.
im hoping that one day, someone who's über-smart will make a box that takes the RCA video (yes i still use a standard definition TV) and uses that to control the guitar. or have someone entirely reverse-engineer the game, take a look at all the notes in each song, and copy and paste them into a database, then use that database to cheat-control.
I wouldn't mind making a robot that can play the game using a webcam to watch the screen. I think that would be a great project to learn about image analysis and robotics control. But learning new things is so uncool...
