The Gadget: Nyko's Kama, a Wireless Nunchuck for your Wii that syncs up with an included dongle on your Wiimote.
The Price: $34.99
The Verdict: Works as advertised. We spent hours going through several games, including Mario Galaxy, and the Kama plays just as well as the standard Nunchuck. It's convenient when you're playing Wii Boxing to not have the cable inbetween your two hands, but when you're playing Mario, it's not all that noticeable either way.
The downside to the Kama is having to charge yet another pair of AAs, plus the fact that you're paying a $15 premium over the standard controller. The upside is you're going entirely wireless, which looks and feels much better. It's also one or two millimeters wider than the standard Nunchuck, which is probably better for adults since the standard one is slightly too thin. Also, the trigger buttons are clear plastic.

Note: We did run into one instance when the Kama kept becoming "stuck" in one direction, always making Mario run off to the left or right. Re-sycning the two controllers didn't help, nor did taking out the batteries and rebooting them. Only shoving in a regular wired Nunchuck or resetting the Wii itself seemed to fix the problem. It probably wasn't a battery issue, since we replaced both batteries with newish ones. We only ran into this once in the entirety of our play time, however, so you shouldn't encounter this often. Update: Nyko tells me that the issue might be because the unit was from an early production lot. They're sending another one for me to test and see if I can reproduce the problem.

I'll stick with my wired chuck.
did you try just removing the dongle and putting it back in? The wii sets its default for position for nunchucks based on how you have the joystick when it starts up I believe. So that may have been the issue.
Nice, but I can only see buying 1 pair. Its not like im getting four for my friends to play brawl. Screw friendship.
I'm sorry but this is too expensive. I don't know why Nintendo didn't include rechargeable batteries for their Wiimote with a USB port so you can just plug it into the back of the Wii to charge it. That said I don't know why Nyko didn't do that for this wireless nunchuk.
I've actually run into the stuck issue with my wired nunchuck too. Unplugging it from the remote and plugging it back in fixes that for my wired nunchuck. Maybe unplugging the dongle and plugging it back in would fix it for this wireless one.
Is is worth $34.99 to have a wireless Nunchuk?
@Benman: Yeah, I tried everything and it didn't re-sync properly until I reset the console.
@Paul: echo echo! Yes. I think I'll probably pick this up soon. While Wii boxing I always manage to yank the chuk out of the mote.
Does the dongle fit if your wiimote is wearing a silicone jacket?
@daftrok: I agree... what the hell?
This is great because I have 8 more rechargeable batteries and they need a home.
Somehow, I never found the wire between wiimote and nunchuck to be an issue. Spending an additional $15 to get rid of it is, though, as is having to get another set of rechargeable batteries for it.
@liveinvt: i'm available to adopt if necessary.
This is worth the extra money just so I can say I have a dongle on my Wii.
@jbrecken: I always find that this impedes the sensitivity of my ... game play.
@daftrok:
It's definitely a luxury item, but I bought two of the limited edition ones, and they rock so hard.
Any game that requires punching - Bully, Scarface or Godfather or Wii Boxing, this thing rocks.
It also rocks on Mario Kart and any game.
Sitting back on a couch with your arms completely stretched and relaxed, while playing, is a freeing experience.
Like I said, definitely a luxury purchase, but I feel like the price difference is negligible when I waste more money once or twice a week at the bar or on 420.
Seriously, between this and the perfect shot, I am very impressed with Nyko's Wii peripherals
Ah, dongle sync. Gotta have that dongle sync.
Does the analog stick feel exactly the same as the first party 'chuck?
@Nintenboy01: Yeah, it does.
I'd get this as a gift for a friend if they were casual players and were easily excited with wireless controls lol. It seems kind of pointless for hardcore gamers to spend that much money just for wireless- especially if it doesn't really add anything onto the gaming experience. You could be saving that money for a new game.
