Who doesn’t make an item tracker at this point? Following in the footsteps of Apple, Samsung, and Motorola, Google is introducing its own wireless item tracker, the Pixel Tag, for locating stuff it’s attached to like your keys or luggage.
A single Pixel Tag will cost $29, and a four-pack will be $99 when it launches later this year on Nov. 11. Although Google is announcing the item tracker alongside the new Pixel 11 series phones ahead of today’s Made for Google event, it’ll work with any phone running Android 9.0 or later. You can also use a Pixel Watch, including the new Watch 5, to find Pixel Tags from your wrist.
The Pixel Tag works almost exactly like Apple’s AirTag and other competing item trackers. Attach it to something, and you can pinpoint its location on your phone using Google’s Find Hub app and beep its built-in speaker. At 1.8 inches long and 1.1 inches wide, the Pixel Tag is larger than a second-gen AirTag but slightly thinner at 0.2 inches. That should make it easier to slip one into a wallet. It’s IP67-rated for dust and water resistance.
The Pixel tag uses a replaceable CR2032 coin battery that’s rated for “over one year” of use before it needs swapping, which is on par with an AirTag.
You’ll be able to pick the Pixel Tag in one color: Fog, which has a silver metal front and a grayish-green polycarbonate backside.
