Ikea’s “Experimental” LED Lamps Are Perfect For “Experimental” Lying On the Floor Staring at the Ceiling

For its new lighting line, “Experiments in LED,” Ikea tapped different designers to create lights that change the ambiance of a room into something trippy. And yes, they’ve all got wonderful names we don’t know how to pronounce.

Designed by Ehlen Johansson the Solullen pendant lamp (blue, left) is made out of paper with a technique that’s often employed in metalwork: The shade is punched full of holes that cast woozy waves on walls. The Onsjo chandelier (center, purple) by designer Sigga Heimis draws on the resemblance of tiny LED diodes to fireflies. And for the Haggas pendant lamp (right, pink), each dangling diode is outfitted with a diffuser of its own.

The lights are reasonably priced between $50 and $60, and, since LED lights are crazy efficient, you’ll save even more money down the road. [IKEA (PDF) via Inhabitat]
