MacBook Air 2012 Teardown: Same Skinny Body, New Beefy Guts

Sure the new MacBook Air is a fraternal twin of the last few versions, but it’s got some nice new guts that are showing up in Apple products for the first time, like the MagSafe 2. As usual, iFixit’s ripping the new machine to shreds.

They’re not quite done with the teardown yet, but so far they’ve pulled out a slightly altered SSD, the smaller I/O card (due to MagSafe 2), and the new asymmetrical fan that “disperses sound across a wide range of frequencies, rather than just one, making fan noise ‘hardly perceivable.'” We’ll let you know if anything exciting turns up, but for now, enjoy the hardware striptease over at iFixit.
