The Cashtag Arrives to Pollute Your Twitter Feed With Stock Info

Twitter now officially supports the cashtag, which sounds very close to Cash Cab but is actually way less fun. Going forward you can click stock abbreviations with a $ in front of them to get financial information about the company.

So for example, when you search $FB, you’ll see relevant tweets about Facebook stock doing poorly. Just to be clear, Twitter isn’t the place you should turn for monetary advice. Ever. And people frequently get these acronyms wrong ($APL instead of the correct $AAPL, for example). But if you’re a finance asshole this could be a bit useful, if not kind of interesting. If you’re everyone else it doesn’t really matter because who cares for hashtags anyway? [TheNextWeb]
