Apple’s Maps app is horrifying—in its apocalyptic world, the Statue of Liberty is no more, the Brooklyn Bridge is blown out, and everything is awful. Desperately searching for an alternative? Conveniently enough, Garmin has getting ready to release a huge update to its iOS navigation app, Navigon.

What does it do?

It gets you around, whether you’re on foot, riding public transit, or in your car. Does spoken turn-by-turn directions, will soon be fully integrated with iOS 6.

Why do we like it?

It has one thing Apple’s native app doesn’t—Street View. Finding that obscure bar that doesn’t have a sign out front won’t make you want to pull your hair out. It also uses Google local search, and has 3D views of buildings and landmarks. Garmin will update StreetPilot Onboard, another of its navigation apps, soon if you don’t want something that works on your iPad, too. And if you’ve been agonizing over how crappy Apple Maps is, now you have something to soothe you. At least, until Google gets its standalone iOS Maps app out the door. [The Verge]
