Now I’ve talked about Cymbals Eat Guitars in a soundtrack post before, but the subject bears revisiting because this some is awesome. At home for Thanksgiving, I found myself behind the wheel for the first time in a while, and between you and me, this is one of those songs that always makes me break the speed limit.

Off the band’s debut Why There Are Mountains, of which I can not speak highly enough, “Living North” has this amazing dynamic contrast between verses, and a guitar solo that sounds like it belongs in a Sonic the Hedgehog game—and I mean that in the best way possible. And the lyrics? Man. While not particularly intelligible, they are killer. The first verse in particular shows a great mastery of a little technique we like to call “show, don’t tell.” I really love this song; can you tell? So check it out, behind the wheel of a moving vehicle if that’s your jam. Just please, don’t get anyone killed. [Amazon, Spotify, iTunes]
