It's that time of year again, when for one day, Hollywood pretends they care about the quality of their product more than the box office gross. Of course everyone dresses up; they're acting.

But I digress.

Today we want you to cast your Oscar vote—not for the throw-away categories like Best Foreign Language Film (*cough Pan's Labyrinth cough*), but for the the one that matters most to tech-loving Gizmodoites—Visual Effects. While Pirates II is the favorite to win, my vote is for Superman Returns.
The visuals balance a sense of speed (the airplane scene) with moments of near-poetic restraint (the tommy gun to the chest scene). But don't let me influence your vote. Because if I'm unhappy with the results, I'll just delete this post like it never happened. – Mark Wilson
