JOEL JOHNSON — Eclipsing the 1.3 megapixel cameras in most of this year’s other phones, Austrian Tel.Me’s new T939 is set to be released this year with a 2.1 megapixel camera. Oddly, the T939 will be powered by Microsoft Windows CE, without the PocketPC or MS Smartphone platforms to extend it.
At this rate, 2005 will see 3 megapixel cameraphones, the level I generally think of as ‘good enough’ for most casual photography use. I am predicting right now the first cameraphone to take SLR lenses in 2007, or alternately, a Digital SLR that can also make GSM calls. Come to think on it, that’s actually not bad of an idea.
