What’s the point of the PMA 2005 show if everyone’s roling out the big guns now? Olympus chime in with their pre-show announcement of three new cameras: the D-545 Zoom, the D-595 Zoom, and the D-630 Zoom.
Details after the jump. Pictures in order of appearance in words.
The D-545 is an entry-level four megapixel job (see! trend!) with a 3x optical zoom and 1.8 LCD. Not much in the way of extra features, but you can decide for yourself if this one counts as a bell or a whistle: the D-545 features a Super Macro mode for crisp, clear close ups from as little as 2 centimeters away. Plan on a March release and $199 price tag.
The D-595 brings us up to five megapixels. A little more newbie friendly, it offers an easy to grip build and optic viewfinder, something Olympus and other camera makers appear to be trying to move away from, if their other new models are any sign. The D-595 has a 3x zoom lens with full manual control, super macro mode and fifteen scene modes for those of you who still don’t understand those little palm tree or half moon symbols. Also planned for next month, the D-595 will run you $279.99.
Coming in at a slimm twenty-four milimeters is the D-630 zoom, a five megapixel model with no optic viewfinder (but a two inch LCD to make up for it), 14mb of internal memory, a 3x optical zoom “twisting lens.” What does it do? What does it twist? Why not the mashed potato? Not even the press release writers know for sure.
