Philips has secretly been working on a new storage format that uses a Blu-Ray laser to store 4GB of data on a 3cm rewriteable disc. They unveiled the new microdisc in Japan last week. Until Philips marketing department comes up with a snappy name, it’s known as Small Form Factor Optical. Should be ready for sale within two years.
