DMC is offering an upgraded version of their DMC-Xclef 500 music player with an 80GB hard drive, making it the largest personal audio player available for the moment—and a 137GB model is in the works. The Xclef 500 is a nice enough player, too, with FM tuner and encoding, voice recorder, and analog/optical line-in to provide high-quality recording at up to 320 kb/s encoding rates. It’s cheap, too, with the 80GB version available for only $379.00, or around the same price as a 20GB iPod. Of course, because it uses a 2.5-inch laptop hard drive, it is about an inch longer and an inch wider than the iPod, as well.
