If Denton caught me talking about something as uncool as printers—budget printers, at that—he’d probably flog me with his Tron slippers, but I’m in the market and I can’t help but think a $99 laser printer from Dell is pretty interesting. Not that I’ll buy the ‘Laser Printer 1100’—Dell printers have a history of iffy compatibility with Macs, and I need a printer that can support Windows and OSX equally well—but the price is fantastic, both in initial outlay and toner costs (just $65 for a full 2000 page cartridge).
Since I rarely need color printing (I keep my pictures on the web), I’m wondering if Ars is right: is a low-end laser printer war on the horizon?
