ABC is definitely talking to Lucasfilm about a Star Wars TV show

Perhaps anticipating that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to get a jillion viewers and a bajillion in ad revenue, ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee is already looking at another major genre franchise to come to his channel — namely, Star Wars.

Via The New York Times:

“We’ve started conversations with them,” Paul Lee told a gathering of TV critics meeting Sunday in Beverly Hills. “I have an inkling in my mind, but they have a lot on their plate.”

It’s obviously nothing more than a conversation at some point, but here’s what’s noteworthy: 1) a specific channel (albeit the Disney-owned ABC) is reaching out specifically for a Star Wars TV series, which will have to help matters along and 2) George Lucas was reportedly holding up the long-rumored live-action Star Wars TV show because the vfx-level he wanted wasn’t financially feasible. Now that he’s gone, it possible that more profit-minded Lucasfilm executives aren’t going to be nearly as nitpicky about how the show looks, making it more likely to happen.

For my money, if Syfy can afford a show that looked like the Battlestar Galactica reboot, ABC can probably make a Star Wars show that doesn’t make us want to tear our eyes out. What do you guys think?
