Acer has a new desktop replacement laptop out that’s sort of ho-hum in general, but is the first to market with a mobile graphics architecture based on PCI Express. ATI’s Mobility Radeon X600 powers the 17-inch, 1,280 by 800 pixel screen, and all the other usual desktop replacement parts come out to play, like a Pentium 4, Wi-Fi, and a built-in subwoofer. The relatively low-resolution of the screen could actually be a benefit to those looking to the Acer Aspire 1800 as a gaming laptop, as the 64MB video solution won’t have enough oomph to render graphics at resolutions much higher than that (but it’s still might eke out some anti-aliasing).
