Alien Pod Ecosystem for your Home

Based on the aquaponics principle that plants and fish should exist codependently in small spaces, this portable greenhouse called Local River stores freshwater fish (think trout and eel), wee vegetable patches, and water all in one unit.

The plants take nutrients from the fish poo, which is rich with nitrates. In turn, they act as natural water filters. It’s the same principle behind bigger hydroponic ecosystems, except it’s there solely for your benefit. As the owner of the system, you get to eat the fish and drink the water when you’re done admiring the beauty of nature.

The pods are made of blown, thermoformed glass.
