If you want to score a deal on the most workout-focused premium earbuds in Apple’s ecosystem, you’ll have to run. The Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 buds are marked down to just $200 right now at Amazon, down $50 from their usual retail price. The jostle-proof earhook design, battery life, and cross-platform compatibility are the calling cards that make the Powerbeats Pro 2 a steal at this time-limited price.

Beats claims 1,500 hours of intense testing were behind this workout-minded design, with a hook that stays put through sprints, lifting, and high-intensity classes without requiring a mid-set adjustment. Active Noise Cancellation is tuned specifically for gym and outdoor environments, which means it is doing different work than the ANC on a pair of commuter headphones. The H2 chip, which Apple also puts in the AirPods Pro 2, handles both the noise processing and the Adaptive EQ. The latter uses internal microphones to measure the fit in your ears and adjust frequencies in real time.

Powerbeats That Hear Heartbeats

The built-in heart rate monitoring sets the Powerbeats Pro 2 on a higher standard than most of the other $200 buds. Sensors sample your heart rate more than 100 times per second, and the data feeds into the Beats app on both iOS and Android. On Apple devices, it connects to Apple Health. On Android, it works through the Beats app with full feature access including customizable controls and battery widgets. The Powerbeats Pro 2 is not an AirPods substitute that leaves Android users with a worse version of the product.

Battery life is rated at 10 hours per charge from the earbuds themselves, with the case adding enough for 45 hours total. The case is the first Qi-compatible wireless charging case Beats has shipped, which means it works on any Qi pad you already own. The Fast Fuel feature is the same as on AirPods: Five minutes of charging delivers about 90 minutes of playback, which is enough to cover a workout if you forgot to charge the night before. IPX4 sweat and water resistance handles the workout use case.

Take the Call

Call quality runs through six microphones, three per earbud, with beamforming to isolate your voice from ambient noise. Class 1 Bluetooth extends the stable connection range compared to standard Bluetooth implementations, which matters when your phone is in a gym bag or a locker across the room. Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking is available on Apple devices. On Android, it is a straightforward Bluetooth earbud with app support, heart rate monitoring, and the same physical hardware.

At their new and very temporary $200 price, the Powerbeats Pro 2 sit in the sweet spot above the standard AirPods but below the AirPods Pro 2. The secure fit and heart rate sensor are the differentiators, and both are genuinely useful if you train consistently. The Powerbeats Pro 2 are a serious option at a price that pops up only infrequently and vanishes quickly.
