Earlier this week, an Air Europa Airbus A330 travelling from Madrid to Buenos Aires flew directly into a rather serious hailstorm, receiving serious damage to the nose and both windshields.

Up until that point, things were rather uneventful on the 12-hour flight. But during the final 20 minutes things got a bit crazy.

“Suddenly, I swear it was like being up [in] a [roller] coaster,” said passenger Andrea Ripoll in an Infobae article. At one point, the plane flew into a storm cloud with hail and lightning. Turbulance got so bad that half of 230 passengers on board — including a flight attendant — got sick, noted Ripoll.

“When we landed we [applauded] the pilot but people had a tremendous desperation to get off the plane,” said Ripoll. “Everyone agreed they had never had such a landing.”

The plane sustained damage to its nose and windshield, but the pilot was able to land safely. The return flight UX-42 was cancelled. More details can be found at The Aviation Herald.
