Anatomical illustrations of Pixar’s Cars reveal where Lightning McQueen keeps his brain

The universe of Pixar’s Cars movies has always been an especially odd one. Here, cars managed to evolve across the Earth with no drivers, and while they run on gasoline, they also have biological-looking eyeballs and tongues. (I know, I’m overanalyzing.) But if the cars are biological instead of mechanical, where do they keep their organs?

Jake Parker, the comic artist and designer who illustrated Michael Chabon’s The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man and also worked on Titan A.E. and Rio, dreamed up these “Automobile Anatomy” illustrations. Apparently, being a single-cab pickup truck means that your organs a bit more squished together than if you’re a sedan. I wonder if that means Mater is prone to certain health problems.
