John Dvorak predicts that Apple will drop Motorola and start using Intel chips in its laptops and notebooks within 18 months. A bold claim (though nothing we hadn’t heard before), but he goes even further: that Apple will use Intel’s new Itanium chips, which PC manufacturers have largely stayed away from. This could potentially be huge. Apple’s computers wouldn’t lag behind PCs in terms of processing speed anymore, something that (at least psychologically) hurts sales. Apple could potentially end up having the fastest desktop you could buy, something that would give plenty of people are reason to switch.
