Hayden Planetarium Director and supreme astrophysics badass Neil deGrasse Tyson recently took to his podcast, Star Talk Radio, to answer a few questions from the audience as read by noted funnyman Eugene Mirman. And fortunately for us, Grand Moff Tyson decided to take the one about blowing up planets.

Technically, the question only asked about the residual effects of potential planet-blasting; Tyson, however, jumped on the opportunity to use this as a crash course in Death Star 101. Blowing up a planet is easier said than done, obviously, but good knowledge to have nonetheless. So go listen to Tyson’s words and keep them close—you never know when Mars might start acting up.
