BiblePlayer for iPod

Some have said that e-Book forms of science fiction won’t ever take off, despite a burgeoning scene spearheaded by BoingBoing editor, EFF figurehead, and successful sci-fi author Cory Doctorow, who has been one of the first to advocate electronic distribution of fiction works in general. Now a group of fans have gotten together to publish an English translation of one of the great collections of Jewish science fiction, designed specifically to be used on an iPod. Since you can only store 1,000 Notes on the iPod at any given time, you won’t be able to store the whole anthology at once, but you can bring over different short stories at a time—especially useful for comparing for inconsistencies between the saga’s authors.

And while there is a free, mostly-text version available for download, you can also spring for the $29 Deluxe edition, which includes MP3 spoken word versions and “behind the scenes” interpretation from noted fanboy Charles Spurgeon. Publishing these kitschy classics that have fallen out of copyright is really a great way to promote the eBook scene.

Update: And before anyone else gets up in arms (besides the one guy who wrote a very polite email): of course I’m kidding. I think we can all agree that the Bible is a 100% true non-fiction work transmitted flawlessy from Yahweh to a variety of scribes using telepathy.

Update update: Ooh, hot day for Bible lovers. Here’s a new KJV version download designed especially for Tablet PCs. KJV is my favorite—it has the best telling of the ‘evil children eaten by a bear’ story.
