We really, really want a BioShock movie to happen. And our level of excitement only increases two-fold when the director, 28 Weeks Later’s Carlos Fresnadillo, says it must be R-rated. Now if only they could get the financial backing.
IGN spoke with formerly attached director Gore Verbinski, and got a quickie update on the status of the film:
We’re working trying to make it. The problem with BioShock was: R-rated movie, underwater, horror. It’s a really expensive R-rated movie. So we’re trying to figure out a way working with [director] Juan Carlos [Fresnadillo] to get the budget down and still keep so it’s true to the core audience, you know? The thing is it has to be R, a hard R….We don’t want to dumb it down, we don’t want to make it PG-13. We want to keep it really edgy, and it’s a huge bill.
Honestly, this is the forthcoming video game film we’re most excited about. Mainly due to the game’s rich visuals and compelling backstory. That said, making this video game a film is going to be expensive. The costumes and world-building alone are going to cost a pretty penny. So while we’re optimistic about the film itself, we’re not holding our breath. Especially after the dismal performance of video game movie Prince of Persia.
