Bizarro Lamp Illuminates a Room With Its Shade

Thanks to the relatively compact nature of LED technology, lighting designers have been able to create some truly unique designs now that they don't have to accomodate a bulb. Like Peter Stathis' Symtra lamp which turns the fractured shade into the source of illumination.

In fact, since the shade really isn't necessary, its flat 2D structure makes it almost like a representative icon of lamp designs in the past. Or an homage to a feature that's no longer needed. When it finally goes on sale the Symtra lamp will be available from Humanscale, although we're still in the dark when it comes to specific pricing and availability details.
