Blinx 2 PR Copywriters Bad at Science

Microsoft today officially announced Blinx 2 for the Xbox. Developed by Artoon and due out in time for the holidays, Microsoft boasts that Blinx 2 is “the world’s first 5-D game, giving players control over both Time and Space”. You may remember that the first Blinx was billed as a “4-D” game, because it gave you control over time. So apparently the idea here is that time has four dimensions and space has only one. Developers, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: marketing and physics do not mix. Combine them at your peril.

The theme of the sequel is that you get to play on both sides of the Blinx universe morality spectrum, which as of now still only has good and evil but may be increased in future press releases to good, evil, cake, table, orange, and indoors, depending on how well the marketing department did in philosophy class. Seen above is an evil pig vs. a good cat, who has apparently just sucked all the texture resolution out of the ground with his vacuum cleaner.

In the single player game you’ll play both cat and pig levels, but what could potentially be interesting are the multiplayer games of cat vs. pig. The first Blinx was a single player only game. How will the game handle the cat team’s time powers and the pig team’s space powers when multiple people are playing?
