Sony and Toshiba have announced that talks to rally around a unified next-generation DVD format have failed. Both companies maintain that they will continue their discussions on the matter, but for now, things are not looking good. The HD DVD group went on to say that they will adhere to their previously announced schedule to introduce HD DVD products this year, obviously not helping the situation at all.
