It’s a strange feeling knowing that somebody somewhere got paid real American dollars to crop out your bad haircut in a JPEG. That’s not the only editing done to my new column in Laptop magazine, thank god, where they’ve taken my spittle and impotent fury and turn it into something readable, as I talk about why Verizon sucks for crippling the V710 (for which they’ve since been sued). Even more interesting, Laptop asked the Bluetooth SIG how they felt about carriers selling half-baked Bluetooth service in an attempt to make a quick buck and they seem pretty sympathetic to the customer, which is encouraging.

What isn’t encouraging is the carriers’ manuevers since this started to be a real issue a few months ago. Sprint backpedaled on the Treo 650 DUN issue, but has yet to actually provide an official solution, forcing Treo 650 users to use a community-hacked workaround. So the lesson is, basically, abandon all hope.
