JOEL JOHNSON — Addressing the age-old dilemma of ‘too many veterinary students, not enough cow rectums,’ the University of Glasgow’s ‘Bovine Rectal Palpation Simulator’ is a serious learning-aid that uses a force-feedback haptic device to simulate various ‘key structures’ that occur all-naturally within a cow. Trained to ‘orientate in a three-dimensional anatomical environment’, students quickly learn to locate and identify such important structures as the uterus and the pelvic brim, as well as palpate early pregnancies.
Next up for the program is the ‘Horse Ovary Palpation Simulator,’ or HOPS. Sadly, no pictures of this test unit are provided.
