Om is talking about the unlikely technology being proposed by the free thinkers at the Nethercomm Corp., who hope to use technology similar to UWB to transmit high-speed network traffic over natural gas lines. Problem is (as one of Om’s commenters points out), many natural gas lines terminate in PVC pipes, not metal, so the last mile question is still seriously in doubt (unless the traffic travels through the gas itself, which I find unlikely, given my vast experience with igniting hair spray in PVC tubes with a BBQ grill sparker). Anyway, good luck, Nethercomm. It’s about time someone figured out how to get internet into homes.
