With the new Terminator movie on the way, it’s fitting that Newsweek has an article about the military’s quest to build robotic soldiers. They’re a long way from robot marines storming the shores of Tripoli, but iRobot, the same company responsible for the Roomba Intelligent Floor Vac, is working on a “PackBot” that could be used for reconnaissance missions and as a battlefield medic; and CyberMotion already sells robotic guards to private companies, and is adapting the CyberGuard for military use and adding “non-lethal” weaponry. Which is good, because we all know what happens when you arm robots.
