Yesterday, Apple announced that it will release its own smartwatch in “early 2015.” But the smartwatch has a trail of broken promises in its wake. Around this time last year Samsung announced that they were going to bring us the sci-fi future we had always dreamt about. Can Apple finally make our smartwatch dreams a reality? Only time will tell. (Sorry.)

Below we have a history of different smartwatch promises that span 70 years. Apple just might be the one to finally succeed at making the smartwatch mainstream, but the field has a lot of baggage. Either way, I guess we’ll still have to wait on those telecasts from the moon.
