A giant metal palm tree branch crashed through an El Paso, Texas man’s windshield, splashing glass in his face and coming inches from impaling him in the head. Why was there a giant metal palm frond crashing to earth? It fell from a T-Mobile cell tower dressed up as a tree.

Apparently T-Mobile checks the fronds on the El Paso, Texas towers once a year, every March, but windy season came a little early this year and nearly killed poor Sergio Gonzales. The CTIA told ABC that neither it nor the FCC regulates the towers—it’s the job of local governments to keep the cell companies’ metal palm tree costumes from impaling their citizens. As it should be, agrees no one. [ABC via Fark]
