In a belated but expected move, China has renewed Google’s ICP license. That means Google.cn will continue to function, which as recently as last month was an open question.

The first hints of a détente came Monday, when a Chinese newspaper first reported that Google had not only gotten their ICP license, but added features like Google Music, Translation and Shopping. Today’s official Google statement said only:

“We are very pleased that the government has renewed our ICP license and we look forward to continuing to provide web search and local products to our users in China.”

The threats to suspend the license stemmed from Google’s policy of redirecting users in China to Google Hong Kong. It’s not clear what the policy will be going forward. [Google Blog]
