From Coleman, known mainly in the US for their camping and outdoorsy equipment, comes the King Cobra multifunction lantern, TV, AM and FM + weather band radio, and siren(!?), perfect for sitting by the fire and watching grainy newscasts on a tiny black and white screen. Not bad for $90, I guess, but I’d rather pay a little more and have it shrunk down, with an LCD screen and onboard GPS (although that certainly would have upped the price). Coleman claims it is “splash proof” which I take to mean that it’ll survive a little water (say, a light rain) but don’t try to bodyboard or anything. It also requires nine C-cells to operate in the field, mostly, I assume, for the power-hungry CRT. Could be a worthwhile addition to your camping gear, but a little updating might make it less bulky and more desirable—and I want to be able to wind it up in lieu of batteries.
