Athena's Daughters is an upcoming anthology written, edited, and illustrated entirely by women, and it's looking for a little crowdfunding support. You can also pledge your dollars toward 3D scanned skull jewelry, a massive zombie taxonomy poster, and a series of beautifully illustrated art books.

Athena's Daughters: Women in Science Fiction and Fantasy

Jean Rabe edits this all-woman anthology of science fiction and fantasy stories, which includes works by Mary Robinette Kowal, Gail Z. Martin, Cleolinda Jones, Danielle Ackley-McPhail, Jean Rabe, Sherwood Smith, Janine K. Spendlove, Vicki Johnson-Steger, Cynthia Ward, Jean Marie Ward, and more, plus an introduction by retired astronaut and Space Shuttle Commander Pam Melroy. Autumn Frederickson and Betsy Waddell will provide illustrations for each story, and Tietjen Alvarez will create the cover. Backers can nab the ebook for a $5 pledge and the paperback for a $25 pledge.

FIRE & BONE: Tiny, Digitally Captured, Metal Animal Skulls

3D scanning and printing enable the folks behind Fire & Bone to make highly detailed and accurate miniature skull replicas. Each skull is cast in bronze, silver, or gold using traditional lost wax casting, and the team has cast tiny versions of American black bear, red fox, walrus, beaver, giraffe, roe deer, lion, snowshoe hare, gray wolf, and bobcat skulls. They are offering backers a choice of skull cast in yellow or white bronze for a $35 pledge.

The Map of Zombies

Cartoonist Jason Thompson is a true aficionado of the horror genre; we've previously featured his comics The Stiff and The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath and Other Stories. He has previously mapped H.P. Lovecraft's Dreamlands and his latest poster illustrates the taxonomy of zombies. He claims that it "includes EVERY important (and almost every unimportant) zombie genre work, from Edgar Allen Poe's 'The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar' to the movies of George Romero and Lucio Fulci, to Kengo Hanazawa's 'I Am a Hero.'" He is offering the printed poster for a $30 pledge.

Periscope Studio: Maiden Voyage

Portland-based Periscope Studio is a collective of fantastic comic book artists and illustrators, and they are now releasing their first series of art books, featuring the works of Ron Randall (Trekker), Paul Guinan (Boilerplate), David Hahn (Erfworld), Natalie Nourigat (Home Is Where the Internet Is), Erika Moen (Oh Joy, Sex Toy (NSFW)), and Benjamin Dewey (The Tragedy Series). The studio is offering PDFs of all six books for a $5 pledge and all six print volumes for a $50 pledge.

Ha, a tad late to donate! Nearly double their goal and still over 3 weeks to go. Congratulations to those ladies, I can't wait to see what they come up with.
