You may find this unbelievably uninteresting and more suitable for a dusty corner of digital photography blog, but I’m curious about it:
This week I watched both “CSI:NY” and “CSI Classic” (Or whatever they call the Las Vegas jurisdiction). I noticed the New York crime scenesters appeared to be using Olympus digital cameras, while their colleagues out West seem to be rocking the Nikons. Not sure what’s going on in Miami. Probably those Panasonic/Leicas.
At any rate, while it’s certainly understandable for different law enforcement agencies in different states to use different vendors for equipment, did CBS and Jerry Bruckheimer actually strike different product placement deals for the different CSI franchises? I’m obsessed.
When “CSI: Topeka” debuts I’m guessing they’ll be outfitted with that oddly named Pentax DSLR.
Anybody have any idea? Which is the camera of the true crimefighter?

friend tells me (who is a cop) that you have to use film camera. They use some old manual cameras.
You have to be able to prove that the image was taken and not altered. Of course, Canon is coming up with some attachment for the 20D (I beleive) that will put a key on the image from the camera so you can tell if the image has been changed.
Nikon and Lexar have cooked something up also:

This is all well and good until Stephan Maywalt of the Cambridge Police Department (“Put down that pocket protector and keep your latte where I can see it!”) writes:
In response to John R. Bennett s obsessive CSI observations, our true crimefighters (and CSI s) were originally equipped with the Fuji FinePix S1 Pro. They recently upgraded to the Nikon D70, which they have been extremely happy with. So my vote is for the West Coast Nikons.
The plot thickens!
