Disappointment of the week: wireless electricity. Ok, so you’ve got the wireless keyboard and mouse. You’ve got the 802.11b card for your laptop. There’s just one more cord to cut: the one to the electrical outlet. A new company called MobileWise is introducing what they’re calling wireless electricity. MobileWise-enabled mobile devices can be charged simply by putting them on top of a mat-like electricity base.
Interesting, but actually not all that helpful, since you still have to plug the base in somewhere, and then leave your gadget on top of it for an exteded period of time. Is it really that much of a hassle to just plug something in? Despite these shortcomings, expect lots of hype about MobileWise in the coming weeks, i.e. a mention on Slashdot and then some gushing soft news coverage on CNN.com.
