Just as the trend toward cheaper LCD displays is reaching a fever pitch, Dell busts out with a 20″ monster for $800. Sure it ain’t cheap, but that’s a pretty good price considering that it was only a few short years ago that 15″ flat panels were $1500, and Apple’s competing 20″ LCD is still $1300 today. Indeed, this Dell seems to stack up quite favorably against Apple’s 20-inch Cinema Display, offering almost identical features for hundreds of dollars less. It’s not as sexy as Apple’s offering (what is?), but those with function-over-form mindsets won’t care, and maybe, just maybe Apple will parry and riposte with a Cinema Display price drop.
