Down on Kensington’s WiFi Finder

Is Kensington’s WiFi detector a dog? Apparently there have been legions of complainst about how it doesn’t detect 802.11g networks (like Kensington originally claimed it would), has trouble picking up anything except very strong 802.11b access points, and that it’s designed to ignore encrypted networks. We’ve been playing around with SmartID’s WiFi Detector, and so far we’ve found it incredibly useful. It picks up both 802.11b and 802.11g networks, and can even differentiate between WiFi and the signal from a 2.4GHz cordless phone.
