PC World has the skinny on DVD players that double as home-entertainment hubs. The piece includes a heads-up on Toshiba’s Advanced Digital Media Server, skedded to ship in early 2005. Yeah, I know the phrase “[anything] on steroids” is played out, but the cliche seems to apply in this case. The Toshiba will be able to stream three TV signal simultaneously, and it’ll feature a PVR, a 250GB hard disk, and 802.11a networking. If you can’t wait ’til next year, at least hold out ’til next month when Philips debuts its MX6000i Steamium Home Theater System (pictured at right). A five-disc DVD changer? Once the complete Herman’s Head comes out on DVD, there’ll be absolutely no reason to peel myself off the couch.
