After railing against remote work and making workers sign a pledge to work at his new “hardcore” Twitter, Musk softened his stance on working outside of the office. Kind of.

Basically, he said remote work would be allowed if a manager approved it, but stated employees had to continue to perform excellent work. Anything less would get their manager the boot.

“At risk of stating the obvious, any manager who falsely claims that someone reporting to them is doing excellent work or that a given role is essential, whether remote or not, will be exited from the company,” Musk said.
