Continuing the trend of analog looking digital cameras, Epson has announced the R-D1. Interchangeable lenses and a true range finder set this one apart from to new Leica or Rollei. Like the others, the R-D1 uses high quality optics (made by Cosina), has plenty of megapixels (6.1), and can record images in raw format (no JPEG pixelation). To me, there’s something critical about the feel of an old school camera that affects the composition of a photo. But film can be such a hassle and a grainy look isn’t always what you’re going for. I’m liking this trend of bringing the convenience and image quality of digital to a more traditional handling device.
